Block of the Month Classes
Included in this section are our ongoing classes that last multiple months or multiple sessions. Here you'll find exquisite examples of the quilting craft, where you'll be led down path to a completed quilt. We'll show samples and explain difficult or new techniques each class session. You'll love these classes and you'll enjoy making new friends that you can catch up with each session!

Embroidery Classes
These are classes that have proved popular here at Queen Ann's Lace. Virtual Machine Embroidery Club, "All About Me!" is a fun and informative way to learn machine embroidery with hands on projects.

Special Groups
More than just classes, these are the special sessions for specific groups. Visit our Project Linus Group and help make blankets and quilts for children in need.

DISNEY DREAMS PILLOW QUILT

Quilters have been making Pillow quilts (Quillows) around for a very long time, but everything old is new again. The new Disney Dreams fabric collection is perfect for any child or adult. Opens to a lap size quilt approximately 42”-70”.

 

COUNTY LINES

This sweet quilt is so simple yet it is a pattern that you might easily overlook and not try. You have to see the sample made up in bright, cheerful color fabrics.

Carol found this quilt pattern by Nancy Johnson-Srebo while visiting a local quilt shop in Nancy’s hometown of Tunkhannock, PA near Carol’s PA hometown. The pattern and name seemed so appropriate. She had to make it for her daughter who now lives in their Pennsylvania family home.

ALL WRAPPED UP

Skill Level: All Machines: All brands with embroidery unit
Bowls, trivets, purses, tote bags…..just to name a few, are all possibilities when you combine cotton rope or clothesline and your favorite fabrics. Based on techniques from the books, “It’s a Wrap” and “It’s a Wrap 2”, we’ll learn construction methods using fabric wrapped rope that can be used for all of these while completing a trivet and small bowl in class. They’ll make great inexpensive gifts and a wonderful way to use your resource center (better known as your stash). Add some variegated thread and a little embellishment and you’ll be amazed!

LARGE SCALE FLOWER QUILT II

Welcome.
In Class 1 students designed a cartoon for a wall quilt of their own large scale flower quilt.
We discussed each student’s design and best approach for construction along with color and fabric choices and now it is time
to learn Juanita’s technique to create the large flower in fabric, thread paint and quilt.

 

INTRODUCTION TO MACHINE QUILTING

The top is done, now what? In this introduction to no-mark quilting class I will discuss every aspect of machine quilting.
How to ready a quilt top for quilting. The best needles to use. Threads and which ones work best and the batting.

 

 

PAINTED FLOWERS

Learn how to use watercolor paints to create images on fabric with soy milk that will make your creation permanent and ready to quilt!


HAND-SMOCKED PADDED HANGER

Mary Lou brings her heirloom sewing class to you with a small project that can actually be completed while learning hand-smocking. Kit includes your pleated fabric, needle and embroidery floss.

 


INTRODUCTION TO HAND DYING

Each student will dye 3 yards of fabric in 1/2 yard cuts in either 6 graduated steps of one color, or a run of fabric from red to yellow, or yellow to blue or blue to red.

Choosing the right embroidery design for a clothing project can be daunting. We will take a look at ways to gain inspiration for choosing designs for garments, and factors that determine the placement on garments. Learn everything you need to know to create wonderful wearable embroidery. We’ll cover proper stabilization and hooping techniques for your favorite fashion and fine fabrics. Embellish pockets, collars, pants or jeans legs—it’s up to you. So bring in that ready-made item and let’s take something ordinary and create something extraordinary!
Also, don’t forget to share your latest embroidery endeavors. We all love to get new ideas.

We will be exploring the world of quilts as we learn which designs and threads to use for quilting the layers of a quilt together using your embroidery machine as well as for embroidering quilt squares. Learn about stabilizers and how to choose the proper ones for quilting designs and for use on quilts. Find out what to look for in a good quality backing--when to use the different types, how to apply them for best results and how to safely remove them. Lots of tips and tricks!

In The Hoops-Jewelry Roll

Join in anytime you can and help make blankets/quilts to give to children in need. Come with or without your machine and be prepared to work on getting these comfort blankets completed for distribution. The more given, the more are needed to give out. Your help will not be turned away.
